Biography
John Bollinger is the president and founder of Bollinger Capital Management, an investment management company that provides technically-driven money management services. Bollinger Capital Management also develops and provides proprietary research for institutions and individuals.
He is perhaps best known to the public as the creator of Bollinger Bands, which he developed in the mid ‘80s. Over the past two decades, investors and traders worldwide have come to view Bollinger Bands as a most reliable tool for assessing expected price action and the bands are featured on most financial charting software and websites.
Mr. Bollinger is also well known for his many years of market analysis and commentary on television—first on Financial News Network, where he was the Chief Market Analyst—and subsequently on FNN’s successor, CNBC.
John Bollinger, a long-term proponent of Rational Analysis, the combination of technical and fundamental analysis, was the first analyst to earn both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a Chartered Market Technician (CMT) designations.
He is a frequent lecturer on technical and quantitative analysis in the US and abroad. His book, Bollinger on Bollinger Bands was published by McGraw Hill in 2001 and has been translated into eight languages.
John Bollinger’s Capital Growth Letter has been published since 1987. It provides market commentary, charts and investment advice for the average investor employing a technically-driven asset allocation approach.
He is a is board member of the Market Technicians Association Education Foundation and a former board member of the Market Technicians Association and the International Federation of Technical Analysts. Mr. Bollinger is also a member of the CFA Institute, the CFA Society Los Angeles, the Technical Securities Analysts Association and was the founding president of Market Analysts of Southern California.
Mr. Bollinger is the recipient of the Technical Securities Analysts Association of San Francisco Lifetime Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technical Analysis and the 2005 Market Technicians Association Annual Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Field of Technical Analysis.
